Just Checking In

My Great Grandson, Atley
ajr3He was born on July 17, 2012. Here’s a new picture. I have not seen him in person yet, but I hope to this next week. It’ll be a change to hold him and get some pictures. I wonder if he’ll like to go fishing. Maybe someday I can take him on a fishing trip.

RedWagonWe’re taking him a gift from his Great Great Grandpa (That’s my Dad who recently passed away.) Dad had a red wagon that Mary had gotten for him some years ago. You might ask why Mary gave him a red wagon. Dad was telling Mary how poor his family was when they were children. They did not have any real toys to play with. They would play with a hoop and a stick or other homemade things. Dad mentioned that he had always wanted a red wagon. so that how Dad finally got his red wagon. Now that red wagon will go to Atley.

Another slap in the face to U.S. Veterans.
I received the following from a good friend. Can this be true?

Obama says his father served in WW II, really?
Of all the things I've seen or heard about Obama on the Internet, NONE has hit me like this!! How can we not believe some of the charges about citizenship, religion, etc., after hearing what he says on this? Obama said his father served in WW II? Barack's father served in WW II?

He said so in a speech. Here is an 18 second video:
CNN News clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv4jnlkxOaw

Why would he say this? Were there no reporters who checked or double checked these statements and called the party on this? They did for everyone else. Why not him?

Like it or not, here are the facts:

  • Barack Hussein Obama Sr. (Obama's father) Born: 4/4/36 Died: 11/24/82 at the age of 46. He was 5 years old when WW II started, and less than 9 1/2 yrs old when it ended.
  • Lolo Soetoro (Obama's step father) Born: January 2,1935 Died: 3/2/87 at the age of 52. He was 6 years old when WW II started, and 10 years old when it ended. He must have been the youngest Veteran in the war.

Watch the video. RIGHT OUT OF HIS MOUTH!!!
And the media doesn't say anything. If you doubt it, Google both of these guys.

Had this been Bush, the Media would still be on this!
The CNN clip of Obama is surprising. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this lie wasn’t uncovered, questioned or debated before the Nov. 2008 election.

A New Tax from the Obama Administration. This time it’s an Aspirin Tax! An Aspirin Tax???

It appears that Obama is going to impose a 40% tax on aspirin, just because it's white and it works!!!

Atley Goes Home Today

My Great Grandson

Here’s the first family photo that was sent to me earlier today.

Quote of the Decade
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally.

Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

~Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

Joke of the Day

For health reasons, Bill's doctor urged him to move to Arizona.

After settling in, he met a neighbor who was a fit older man.

"Say, is this really a healthy place?" Bill asked.

"It sure is," the man replied. "When I first arrived here I couldn't say one word. I had hardly any hair on my head. I didn't have the strength to walk across a room and I had to be lifted out of bed."

"That's quite an improvement!" said Bill. "How long have you been here?"

"I was born here."

It's Friday the 13th....

Just a Reminder for you to be careful today. Today is special because Friday the 13th actually fell on a Friday. It happens sometimes. So be extra careful today!

Granddaddy & Grandmother are in Knoxville today. We came yesterday to visit with Mary. Last night we went out to eat at nice Mexican restaurant. Delicious!

I'm getting ready to pick some tomatoes. Some look red and ready to pull from the vine.

....A Little Time goes by while we are at the garden.....

Here's what we picked. Dad would be smiling!

An Old Shovel

A Story Could Be Told
Yes, a story could be told about this old shovel. I wonder who bought it? How much did it cost? How was it used?

It has an interesting wooden handle. It’s one piece of wood all the way to the metal.

IMG_2324

It was broken at one time, and look how it was repaired:

IMG_2325

It looks like wire was used to make the repair. Maybe this was before welding was available.

IMG_2323

I that shovel could talk it could tell us who made the handle, how it got broken, who made the repair, etc. We found this along with Dad’s things in his out building. It was one of those things he never told me about, and now I have many questions.

Tennessee Granddaddy Says:
I’m growing shorter. I was at the doctor’s office  the other day and they weighed me and measure my height. It wasn’t my weight that surprised me…. it was that I am growing shorter. I’m over 2 inches shorter now than when I graduated from high school. Did you know that this is normal for us seniors? It’s caused by the shrinkage in the discs separating the vertebrae.

Joke of the Day

IT'S BEEN SO HOT in Tennessee

  • the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.
  • the trees are whistling for the dogs.
  • the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance
  • hot water comes from both taps.
  • you can make sun tea instantly.
  • you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
  • the temperature drops below 90 F and you feel a little chilly.
  • you discover that it only takes two fingers to steer your car.
  • you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
  • you actually burn your hand opening the car door.
  • you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 A.M.
  • your biggest motorcycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
  • you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.
  • the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.
  • the cows are giving evaporated milk.
  • farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

IT'S SO DRY IN Tennessee that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving rain checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water!

This and That…

Dad’s Tomato Garden
I made a short post on Dad’s Blog showing a few pictures of his Tomato Plants. You can see them here:

Fishing Results
I have taken the time to go fishing a couple of times in the last month. Both time we went to South Holston to fish for the lake trout. We caught our limit both times, but the limit is only 2 per day per person. Even so, the fish are big and it results in a good mess. Here’s a couple of pictures

On 6/19/12 Doug and I had 4 nice keepers. The total weight of the stringer was 17.5 lbs. IMG_2313
On 6/26/12 Doug, Ralph and I had 6 nice keepers. The stinger weight was almost 19 lbs., and the largest went close to 6 lbs. IMG_2319

We have been spending lots of time in Knoxville of late. We’ve been going through the home place to make had decisions about what to keep, what to sell, and what to throw away. It is heart-rendering to say the least.

Joke of the Day

A man went to the airline counter and the ticket agent asked, "Sir, do you have reservations?"

The man replied, "Of course I have reservations, but I'm flying anyway."

---

A man walked up to the airline counter and told the airline worker, “I'd like this bag to go to Berlin, this one to California, and this one to London."

The worker says, “I'm sorry sir. We can't do that.”

The man replied, "Nonsense. You did it the last time I flew with you."
